Welcome to Gartley Station
The name “Gartley Station” comes from a small town in north-eastern Scotland named Gartly; (the “e” was added sometime later by immigration officers when the clan migrated to Canada.). A major train line once ran through Gartly, stopping to pick up and drop off customers and freight. In the past few years, the train has rolled right on through town without stopping.
Gartley Station Fermentations
sits precisely on the original location of the Saanichton station along the V&S Railway, (which once ran from Victoria to Sidney). Veyanness Rd is where the tracks used to lay. Six years ago, after uncountable hours of trying to come up with name for the new business, the similarities and coincidences between the two locations finally hit home. As soon as the words “Gartley Station” were spoken; so was the name born, and the business started. The two pictures of Gartly Station – Scotland are circa 1850 and 2001.
